VICs

The forward VTOL unit was capable of orbital flight but not intersystem travel. The (hover/ low-altitude flight) side units were primarily ground support, analysis and storage for mission appropriate gear/etc. 2 Jet Bikes provide Hero support and 2 Prisons / Storage units provide a couple safe spots that can move or fight (turret).

This construct was nearly 19" long and split into 3 remote craft, the forward jump jet craft, 2 side Recon floaters from the central +10 Monster Truck. It also had 2 miniature 1-man craft (jet bikes) which could dock and lock on the rear 'fenders' and 2 space police prisons (removable 1000 gallon chambers). It is comprised of parts that were 20 years old to brand new. This was the last iteration of a vehicle I had rebuilt since I was a young child (It was originally a box on wheels that could take a roll down the stairs)
The final version of VICs could take a trip down the stairs too, its outriders would come off, maybe losing a shovel or a backpack first. Then the truck part would tumble to the bottom, around the corner and into the living room without losing a part. So it became a part of the comic series I have yet to publish even a single issue of... but you can see page 1 in the previous few posts.
The turrets were removed before every trip down the stairs, no question they wouldn't make it.

If anyone can correct the date of this based on the LEGO parts I'd appreciate the accuracy.

'Imperial Troops have entered the -achhh....'

You just cant tell how saturated something is on a laptop... well, I can't believe I never posted this one, it's an old favorite.
Here's the desaturated one:

Rockin' Butcher Pig

All he needs now is a gui-tar!

Wasp - Stormforge

The first Stormforge Ship! I'll show the 3d model that Felipe Rodriguez made ....soon (I have to take screens or render it first).

Monkey Dinosaur Robot

Three words, 2 hours - GO! This was commissioned at kind of the last minute by a friend for another friend's baby shower (which I am missing right now -gotta work work work!)

Bizarre idea, but once I started thinking about the context I realized this was a monster baby at heart and from that point the drawing became easy to visualize.

Polar Bear

I am having a real hard time keeping up with this these days, so here's another super-quick - incomplete sketch, I hope you like it!

Frank 'n Bride

I prefer to think of Frankenstein's monster as a diminutive malformed self conscious creature, who was lucky never to be exposed to the nagging of a wife who never would have been satisfied with the mockery of life they could have 'lived' together.

...and...

Dead Reckoning

The only vehicle said to be Zombie Proof that has not been proven falsely advertised. And what a cool name for a rig!

I'm not sure how accurate this is, but I was watching Land of the Dead and just had to attempt to draw it.

"Wrought"

This tiny tiny sketch, that I thought was so cool; plus a couple hours with low opacity photoshop brushes- somehow really works for me.

The First Avenger

Yeah, there's only so many hours in a day so.... a bit unfinished still.

End of the Night

By then I imagine I looked a bit like a drunken ewok, and apparently had the social graces of one too :(

The Ragman Charge

Yesterday was our company 5 year anniversary, we went to San Francisco around Pier 39, had Bubba Gump for lunch (they know fish & chips), did a scavenger hunt through the day (craziness, fun) and went on a cruise in the bay for the rest of the evening. What did I learn? Be wary of open bars! Almost 24 hours later I'm still a little blurry.

So, apologies for no post yesterday, time now to start getting back on track.

Girls Round 2

OKay, I admit, yesterday and today are not 'new' today but they are new drawings, made in the past couple months, each was done in a day. Yesterday started at 8 am and lasted until 1pm today, so no time for drawing, anyway I wanted to share these and hope you dig them.

Screaming Dragon

I might later make this a sticker, I have to frame it and maybe add some color... we'll see when I can make time for it. I'm having a problem with the right arm elbow area (I got carried away detailing and started to ignore anatomy from the looks of it, maybe a lttle editing before touching it up for stickers). I got called back to Cinderblock (http://cinderblock.com/) for a temporary part-time gig and I'm going to continue to work full-time at my current job, so there may be some pretty weak posts over the next few weeks, particularly Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but I'll do my best to keep bringing you cool new images daily!!

Sci-Fi Armory

A small series of weapons possibly for the Heritage project.

The little guy in the middle is kind of out of place but it was on the original page, so I included it.

Quick concept progression

This is the progression of an idea for a jet bike that can fold up for storage, take off and landing. It started looking too much like a STAP from Phantom Menace, I think it came around nicely to the more 'wheel less jet cycle' look that I like.

#2 looks like some kind of puppy robot to me :)

Congratulations to all the Packer fans, maybe next year Pitt!

Swamp Monster

Art markers are so cool! I've been considering picking up some marker paper recently, after using the markers again on standard printer paper this consideration is moving over to the to-do list... somewhere very near the top.

Two things make this medium desirable, one - in areas of overlap and touch up these markers do not create a seam so they're quite a bit more forgiving than lesser markers, and two - on marker paper I can use bright colors and they will stay bright, regular paper just kind of sucks the life out of the brighter colors.

Cobalt and Eight

I still really like the names for these two, Cobalt and Eight,  even though I first named them about 20 years ago...

And they are still just hanging out, side by side blasting away at -whatever is over on the right there... words I guess.

Argh! My drawings are attacking my writings!

This one is so old, when I was looking at it I could tell I didn't know photoshop at all when I did it, Yay Progress! :)

League of Awesome

Just a quick logo concept for LoA (Thad Collins is the hammer, I'm the wrench and Pat Speedy is the sword) -I wish I could 'tag' people in this image, lol.

Anyways, this will save me from returning to work at midnight to post, I'll have something more... drawn for tomorrow.

Revisiting Recent Ideas

A curly haired girl on a 'Ceratops, I suprised myself with this one and did it in under 2 hours.

Nevrasaurians

The bipedal Ostrich-like creature was started yesterday.
It's easy to fall into detailing on animals, there's texture everywhere!

Shaman Two tails

I wanted this guy kind of stretched and beastly, gave him exaggerated shoulders and hands to emphasize animal qualities and give a anatomic forced perspective.

Forkbarrel

A Stormforge Studio design, I worked on the model a bit today and made the presentation page.

Still on Borrowed Net.

Thursday, January 27, 2011

and closer still...

The original is @2.5 inches wide and took maybe 10 minutes to make.

I'm on borrowed network here, so no archives today.

Cutting it Awful Close

Well, they cant all be finished... wait, are any of them so far?
This is a costume alt / character design along the lines of Kay-Li from Legend of the Wolf. Maybe another Cloudreach agent? idk. Just glad to have gotten the scan and posted it 'on time'.

And, yeah. She's got big furry mittens and spindly little legs... and big ole feet (to boot).

Dual-Elemental Dragon

Here's a favorite from a super short contract I had, nice thing is, they let us keep the rights to the images.

Pegasus

Pegasus was slated for our 'Clash of the Titans' modern game level in school, the project kind of self terminated once the concept art and a very few models were started. I was going to make the hero's motorcycle and last night I found the file I had started, it took about 3 hours to finish the base model, add details, and assign textures (to give a rough idea of the color scheme). The current count on this mesh is @15000 polys / 30k tris.

Flamethrower Angel

(renamed: Famme, see Feb. 2012)

As promised, a new drawing of the day as well! This is another character design I'm still playing around with. I want it to be simple, but obviously hi-tech, and safe for the user (not always a concern in past flame thrower rig designs). Oh yeah, and sexy!

day 2

new today
Action Pose, Sliding thrust attack.

Merlin; Combate Mage

Complete with Excalibur!

I always figured Excalibur would reconfigure itsself for it's wielder, I mean, what if Arthur had been 4'9" and weighed 90 pounds soaking wet? He's not gonna do much with some four foot longsword!

Battle Van

It's an older pic, but it gives an idea of some of the Snowcrash / Zombie survival type vehicle ideas that I tend to have.
